Nazarbayev University is a new university initiated by the President of Republic Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbaev. In doing this, President Nazarbayev seeks to promote a qualitative leap forward in the preparation of the next generation of national technical and scientific elites, in order to assist in the industrial-innovative development of the country. Nazarbayev University considers its mission the advancement of the development of education and research in the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as to contribute to Astana's aspiration to become the research and educational center of Eurasia. Our vision is creating graduates prepared according to the highest international standards in order to contribute to research, education, and the national economy. 
The strategy for University development from 2010 to 2012 was approved on October 17, 2009, at the first meeting of the Board of Directors of JCS "New University of Astana." On June 7, 2010, the university changed its name to Nazarbayev University. In Fall 2010, the university accepted its first students. And on June 15, 2011, the university changed its legal status and became the autonomous organization of education called "Nazarbayev University." This university works under its own educational standards. Its activity has been regulated by a special Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan from Jan.19, 2011: "About status of "Nazarbayev University", "Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools" and "Nazarbayev Fund".

To train professionals with qualifications meeting the highest international standards who will be able to contribute to the research, education, and the national economy.
Mission
To advance the development of education and research in the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as to contribute to Astana’s aspiration to become Eurasia’s research and educational centre.
