ASTANA IS THE CAPITAL OF KAZAKHSTAN

A unique city, combining both the eastern and western culture, the pride of the Republic.

Astana became a new capital in 1997, when the proposal of President Nazarbayev about moving the capital was generally seconded. This movement was motivated by an important geopolitical location of the city, developed communication and transport infrastructure, availability of land for urban development.

 

The movement of the capital to Astana functions has opened a new stage in its development of the city. Astana became the centre of public, social and cultural life.

In the construction of Astana city there participated 71 cities of the republic, 135 factories and above 400 construction companies. Every year, about 60 – 100 construction projects emerged in Astana. Active construction allowed raising, within ten years period, a new modern city in Kazakh steppes.

In 1999, Astana was awarded the UNESCO prize "City of Peace", and in 2003 the capital was marked by the world famous rating agency Moody `s Investors Service. Thus, the city became an important element of "Kazakhstan brand" and entered the list of the 30 best world cities.

Today, the capital of Kazakhstan Astana is becoming more and more attractive for both the residents of the country and foreign guests. The up-to-date architecture style of the city, combining the best traditions of the eastern and European cultures demonstrates in the most accurate way its appearance as a centre of politics, culture and economy.

During just a few years the urban landscape of Astana has transformed. And even today the city continues to be dynamically developed. The night appearance of Astana has also changed: a beautiful illumination of buildings, new street lights, gorgeous fountains at the Ishim river, the quay – they all are features of the modern capital of the Republic. Today Astana is the pride of Kazakhstan, a symbol of unification of the state and the embodiment of the national idea. Kazakhstan's development is closely linked to the future of the capital, which is justly considered as an element of a new image of the country.
